The island has no natural fresh water resources, there are no lakes or natural rivers. The drinking water comes from 2 reservoirs in the mountains. The highest mountain of Mallorca, El Puig Major, is located in the Serra de Tramuntana, and is 1445 m high.
Majorca offers changing habitats for 1500 plant species, among which there are rare species like the wild orchid. There are 15 nature reserves where the vegetation and fauna of the island is preserved.
