As of the 2009\u00a0<a title=\"Census\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Census\">census<\/a>, the population of the city of Palma proper was 401,270, and the population of the entire urban area was 621,000,\u00a0ranking as the twelfth largest urban area of Spain. Almost half of the total population of Majorca live in Palma. The\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Cabrera Archipelago\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cabrera_Archipelago\">Cabrera Archipelago<\/a>, though widely separated from Palma proper, is administratively considered part of the municipality. Its airport,\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Son Sant Joan Airport\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Son_Sant_Joan_Airport\">Son Sant Joan<\/a>, serves over 22 million passengers each year. The Marivent Palace was offered by the city to King\u00a0<a title=\"Felipe VI of Spain\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Felipe_VI_of_Spain\">Felipe VI of Spain<\/a>. The royals have since spent their summer holidays in Palma.<br \/>\nPalma was founded as a\u00a0<a title=\"Ancient Rome\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ancient_Rome\">Roman<\/a>\u00a0camp upon the remains of a\u00a0<a title=\"Talaiot\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Talaiot\">Talaiotic<\/a>\u00a0settlement.
