Travelling to Majorca in spring gives you the chance to plan a holiday quite different from one in July or August. Between March and May, the island changes from week to week: temperatures rise, the days grow longer and the coast begins to play a bigger part in the trip. Yet you can still spend plenty of time walking, cycling, exploring villages or enjoying a morning in a natural setting.
The key is not to think of spring as an early summer. In March, a sunny day may tempt you to sit beside the sea, only for you to need a jacket a few hours later. May, by contrast, feels much closer to the pace of the beach season.
If you are planning a trip to Majorca in spring, these ideas will help you decide which activities best suit the month, the weather and the area where you are staying.

March, April and May offer different experiences
AEMET’s climate averages for Palma Airport show how the season develops: the average daily high rises from 17.5°C in March to 19.8°C in April and 23.7°C in May. These figures are a guide, not a forecast for your holiday, as conditions can vary considerably between the coast, inland areas and the Serra de Tramuntana.
It therefore helps to think about each month differently:
| Month | Activities that work particularly well | Things to bear in mind |
| March | Hiking, cycling, Palma, villages and cultural outings | Cool mornings and evenings; more changeable weather |
| April | Nature, walking routes, villages, the coast and Easter celebrations if your dates coincide | The sea may still feel cold for swimming |
| May | Combining day trips with beach time, coastal walks and outdoor activities | It is warmer, but bringing an extra layer is still advisable |
If your main priority is to spend long hours swimming and sunbathing, May is a better fit than the beginning of spring. If you would rather explore Majorca and alternate between mountains, villages and the coast, March and April have plenty to offer.
Walk a section of the Serra de Tramuntana

Spring is an excellent time to explore the Serra de Tramuntana on foot. You do not need to take on a multi-day trek: you can choose a route that suits your fitness and spend just a morning or a day on it.
The Ruta de Pedra en Sec GR 221 crosses the mountain range through a series of stages and alternative routes, passing through mountain landscapes and towns in western and northern Majorca. Before setting off, it is best to check the condition and waymarking of the section you want to walk, as the routes do not all have the same characteristics.
It is also important to adapt your walk to that day’s weather. Conditions in the mountains can feel very different from those in Palma or a coastal town. Suitable footwear, water, an extra layer and sun protection remain essentials even when the forecast looks favourable.
You do not need to seek out the longest walk to enjoy this part of Majorca. In spring, choosing your route carefully and leaving time to stop in one of the Serra’s villages is often more rewarding than trying to cover as many kilometres as possible.
Make the most of spring by exploring Majorca by bike
Cycling is another way to take advantage of temperatures that have not yet reached summer levels. You will find relatively flat routes across the Pla de Mallorca, as well as much more demanding rides if you head towards the Serra de Tramuntana.
The type of trip you have in mind matters here. If you only want to hire a bike for a few hours, cycling can simply be one activity among others. If you are coming to Majorca intending to ride almost every day, the location and features of your accommodation become much more important.
In that case, you can find more information in our guide to accommodation in Majorca for cycling enthusiasts and consider which area would make the best starting point for your rides.
Do not forget to check the route before setting off. Elevation gain, distance and road type can turn two rides that look similar on a map into very different days.
Head to the coast even if swimming is not the focus of your trip
One of the advantages of visiting Majorca in spring is that you can enjoy the coastline without necessarily planning an entire beach day.
A walk by the sea, a meal near the coast or a few hours on the sand can fit comfortably between other activities. In May, if the weather is good and you do not mind water that is cooler than in summer, you may feel more like going for a swim. In March or April, it is better not to build your whole trip around that expectation.
The north is particularly well suited to combining the coast with other experiences. Alcúdia, Pollença, Port de Pollença, Playa de Muro and Can Picafort offer opportunities to alternate between the sea, villages and nature without doing the same thing every day.
If you are heading to that part of the island, our guide to what to see in Pollença can help you plan a day in the town and its surroundings.
And remember an important distinction when choosing accommodation: “near the beach” does not necessarily mean within walking distance, right on the seafront or with sea views. These are different features, and it is worth checking the details of each property.
Spend a morning birdwatching at s’Albufera de Mallorca
Between Playa de Muro and the Bay of Alcúdia, you will find an activity particularly well suited to spring: visiting the Parc Natural de s’Albufera de Mallorca.
The wetland is important for birds, and spring coincides with the migration of many species. The Government of the Balearic Islands identifies April as one of the months with the most intense migration activity, making it an interesting place to visit even if you have never been birdwatching before.
You do not need any knowledge of ornithology to explore its paths and observation hides, although binoculars will help.
Admission is currently free, but you need a permit, which you can request when you arrive at the Information Centre. As opening hours and access conditions may change, always check the park’s official information before travelling there.
This kind of outing also shows why a spring trip should not be reduced to the question of whether it will be warm enough to swim. At this time of year, other parts of the island come into their own.
Make time for Palma and the villages, not just the famous viewpoints
Palma lends itself particularly well to a day without an overly fixed schedule. You can explore the old town, visit the area around the cathedral and Parc de la Mar, stop for lunch and leave part of the afternoon for its streets, courtyards, shops or museums.
Beyond the capital, Pollença, Alcúdia, Sóller and some of the inland villages make it easy to combine walking, local food and shorter visits without turning every journey into a full-day excursion.
These days are particularly useful in spring because you can decide what to do according to the weather. If the morning is clear, you may prefer a walking route or the coast; if conditions look less settled, you can swap the mountains for Palma or one of the island’s many lovely villages.
Before setting off, check the opening hours of anything you particularly want to visit. Some businesses, tourist services and activities operate seasonally, so do not assume that everything available in May will also be open in March.
If your trip coincides with Easter, leave room for local traditions
The dates of Easter change each year and can fall in March or April. If it coincides with your stay, you will find processions and celebrations in Palma and other municipalities across Majorca.
It is also a good time to discover food associated with Easter. Panades, robiols and crespells are part of the season and can be found in Majorcan bakeries and homes well beyond the tourist areas.
You do not need to organise your entire holiday around the celebrations. Simply check the local events programme where you are staying and decide whether a procession, market or other activity fits into your plans.
If you are travelling during Easter, do not assume that every week of spring is equally busy. Easter can bring considerably more visitors than other weeks in March or April.
Do not count on seeing almond blossom in spring
Photographs of almond orchards frequently appear in discussions of Majorca outside summer, but there is an important point to clarify.
Almond trees mainly blossom in winter, particularly in January and February, although the season may extend into part of March depending on the year and location. If you are travelling in April or May, you should not plan your trip expecting to see that landscape.
In spring, you will find green fields, wildflowers and scenery well suited to exploring on foot or by bike. It is simply better not to treat almond blossom as a guaranteed part of the experience.
It is a small detail, but one that helps avoid a common disappointment when planning a trip.
Choose accommodation around what you want to do each day
On a spring trip, location may matter more than having a long list of facilities at your accommodation.
If you plan to spend several days hiking or exploring villages, you may prefer a base that makes those journeys easier. If you want to alternate excursions with time beside the sea in late April or May, staying closer to the coast may make more sense.
If you are still weighing up both possibilities, read our guide to staying inland or on the coast in Majorca.
If you already know that you want the sea to be a regular part of your holiday, you can explore Mallorca Charme’s selection of accommodation near the beach in Majorca.
Properties in that category have different locations and features. Compare the actual distance to the sea, access, capacity and facilities listed for each one. If being able to walk to the beach, having sea views, a pool or staying right on the seafront is essential to you, check those specific details before booking.
