How is Mallorca in winter

Granted, the main tourist season in Mallorca is during the summer months, when the Mediterranean Sea offers the perfect bathing temperature. But when the streams of tourists gradually leave the island at the end of autumn, contemplative calm returns in winter. The beaches empty, hotels go on winter break and the island returns to its own rhythm. The quiet side of Mallorca comes to the fore. If you want to escape the wet and cold German winter, Christmas in Mallorca is just right. With rather spring-like values between 15 and 18 ° C, the island spoils its visitors.

Winter excursions in Mallorca

Mallorca offers a lot even in winter time – especially beautiful contrasts. The island blossoms after the dry summer months. The orange trees are fully covered with ripe fruit. Palma lights up with lush Christmas lights. The Christmas markets offer handicrafts, mulled wine and hot chestnuts. One enjoys the feeling of contemplation and tranquility, just as it should be during the Christmas season.

There are many beautiful traditional Christmas markets to discover in winter, for example in the Plaza Major in Palma, but also in the smaller villages you can find more and more often Christmas stalls in Mallorcan tradition. Here is a video of Mallorca in winter:

Particularly exciting for young and old is the arrival of the Three Kings on the eve of January 6, especially in port towns such as Port de Pollenca or Port de Alcudia, because there the kings come by ship across the sea, and then after a parade through the village to give the children their gifts. In Mallorca, the children do not receive their gifts from Santa Claus or the Christ Child, instead the arrival of the Three Kings is eagerly awaited. On the evening of January 5, the Three Kings arrive in the cities and parade through the streets, bringing the long-awaited Christmas gifts. Usually a high-altitude fireworks display concludes the event.

January 16 is the eve of Sant Antoni. In many places, people celebrate how St. Antoni put the devil to flight. Fires blaze in the streets, disguised devils and processions parade through the town. There is barbecue, drinking, music and dancing – here you will find the authentic Mallorca.

For the patron saint festival of the city saint Sant Sebastia is celebrated in Palma for a whole week! With fireworks, live music, barbecues and lots of fiesta, Palma’s residents pay tribute to their patron saint. Bonfires blaze in the streets, where people barbecue sobrassada and botifarrons. On the evening of January 19, Palma’s main squares fill with music, various bands and DJs performing for the crowd, who enjoy the free entertainment.

At the end of January, when in Germany it is still deepest winter, on Mallorca already begins the spring season with beautiful sunny days and often pleasant temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees. Just the right conditions for the buds of the famous Mallorcan almond trees, which begin to open at this time of year and turn into magnificent white and pink clouds. A natural spectacle that should not be missed.

You already have no excuse not to visit Mallorca in winter.
